Why we built this

In 2023, after evaluating compliance automation tools for a Series B fintech, our founder William Acuna spent six weeks wading through vendor demos, G2 reviews funded by the same vendors being reviewed, and analyst reports locked behind five-figure subscription fees. Every “independent” comparison he found was either SEO content optimized for affiliate commissions or a vendor’s own “vs. competitor” landing page.

The compliance software market had grown into a $15B+ industry — with Drata, Vanta, Secureframe, and dozens of competitors all claiming to be the easiest path to SOC 2. Yet there was no independent, methodology-driven resource that explained how these tools worked, what they got wrong, and which one was right for a 40-person engineering team vs. a 4,000-person enterprise.

ComplianceDirectory launched in 2024 to fix that. We built the directory we wished existed: every major compliance tool in one place, scored against a transparent rubric, with no vendor influence over the results.

What we stand for

Independence above all

No vendor pays to influence their score, featured position, or editorial content. Ever. Our only revenue is subscriptions from practitioners who find the directory useful.

Methodology-first scoring

Every tool is scored on a published, reproducible rubric — the AI Neutrality Score (ANS). We show our work so you can challenge our reasoning, not just accept our conclusions.

Built for practitioners

We write for CISOs, compliance managers, and engineering leads — not procurement committees. If a tool has a fatal flaw, we say so clearly, even if that vendor is well-funded and well-marketed.

Living data, not static snapshots

The compliance tool market moves fast. Scores are reviewed quarterly. When a vendor ships a major update, gets acquired, or changes their pricing model, we update the record.

The AI Neutrality Score (ANS)

Every tool is scored on four dimensions — Transparency (30 pts), Neutrality (25 pts), Methodology (30 pts), and Citations (15 pts) — for a maximum of 100 points. Scores above 85 indicate best-in-class tools. Scores below 50 indicate significant gaps buyers should understand before committing.

The full scoring rubric is published at /methodology. We publish our reasoning so you can disagree with it.

Our independence promise

ComplianceDirectory does not accept payments from vendors to influence scores, featured positions, or editorial content. Vendors may submit their tool for inclusion, and may submit evidence to dispute or update a score. That is the extent of vendor influence on this site.

Our revenue comes from Pro subscriptions that unlock deeper comparison features, export tools, and priority access to new framework coverage.

Work with us

We are looking for certified compliance practitioners (CISA, CISSP, CPA with audit experience) to join our editorial review panel. Reviewers receive a byline, early access to new framework coverage, and a Pro subscription.
